Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate women throughout history—including the more than two million women veterans living in the United States today.

Did you know that women are the fastest-growing demographic among veterans, expected to make up 18% of all veterans by 2040? While they have a growing presence, many women veterans face unique challenges in finding the support and connection they need after leaving the military.

Women have played an essential role in the U.S. military for centuries, serving in various capacities from the Revolutionary War to today’s armed forces. They have broken barriers, from the first official enlistments in World War I to serving in combat roles and leadership positions. Their contributions in intelligence, logistics, aviation, medicine, and beyond have shaped the success of military operations and paved the way for future generations of women in uniform.

Despite these groundbreaking contributions, many women veterans navigate challenges that stem from their unique experiences in service.

Research from the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) Women Warriors Initiative found that many women veterans report “feelings of isolation, loneliness, and the struggle to identify with other veterans or civilian women.”

Studies show that loneliness is one of the strongest predictors of suicidal thoughts and

behaviors, making the lack of social connection a serious issue for women veterans.

At Vets4Warriors®, we believe in the power of connection. Our peers, mostly veterans themselves, are standing by 24/7, ready to provide confidential, and personalized peer support to service members, veterans, and their families. We provide a trusted connection when personal support networks are out of reach.
